Teeth!

Students will be bringing home a teeth chart on Monday.  We want to help them understand the importance of taking care of their teeth each day and help them form healthy habits by doing so.  Please help them by making a check mark in the box under each day of the week that they brush their teeth.  Return on Friday for a fancy feather! Thank you for your support...
Pictures of their presentations will be posted as soon as they are done! Cannot wait to hear all about them!

All About Me!!!

The last several weeks we have been doing a unit of "All About Me!"  The students have learned about some of the features and their functions such as eyes, ears, nose, arms and legs.  They also learned about muscles, heart and their lungs.  They completed a book about themselves that shows their hand print size, age, height and weight.  They made a portrait of themselves using yarn for hair.  They also did a sentence each day for several days describing themselves.  I was absolutely amazed at their handwriting, so very nice.  They will be doing a presentation of themselves this next week with the "homework" assignment they did and returned to school.  We will continue this next week also with learning about "TEETH".

January 28-February 1, 2013

If your child is absent for any of these days.  Here is an outline of what we will be studying for the week.  If your child is here every day and you ask them what they are studying, they should be able to tell you!!!

Reading:  Make a chart of things that we "know, want to know and learn" about penguins.
Read a variety of books that tell facts about penguins.
Research on the internet facts about penguins.

Writing:  Write facts that students learned about penguins on a chart.
Write in their journals things they like about penguins.

Phonics:  We are working on the word families "ot, og, op" .  We are sorting into the correct family then reading the words to match with the picture.  We are also blending together to read simple 3 letter words.
Long vowels will be practiced as well.

Sight words:  3 new sight words have been introduced this week.  A complete list will come home this Friday.  You and your child can make flash cards with these words to be able to practice at home.

Math:  Counting, writing and recognizing numbers.  We are making a "game board" with base ten numbers to practice on in class.  These will be coming home on Friday.  Simple addition will also be practiced.

*Other objectives that you can always work on at home with your child are questions from a story such as characters, setting, author, illustrator, problem in the story and the solution.  These will help your child's comprehension of stories.

WELCOME TO OUR CLASS BLOG!

In an effort to keep you more informed about our classroom, I have created this blog.  On this site you will find our monthly newsletters, snack calendar, hug a bears for the month, birthdays and special events or activities we have done or will be doing in our classroom.  I would love to see parent comments and posts.  Please look it over and join so you can be a part of it!  It is important that you do this not only for you to view but for your child to view and leave comments with you.   This is just another great way we can brag on  the great things your children are doing in school.

Hope to be seeing you on here soon!  Leave a comment when you have joined!

Your Child's Teacher,
